Blog #4 1984

Winston and Julia had to work at their relationship. The pleasure and lust did not just come naturally they actually had to take steps in order to pursue the final step they wanted to be at. With the emotionless brains that they were forced to have, Winston and Julia were put under pressure and surveillance when trying to see each other. But, if you think about it, there must have been something there that they felt for each other if they went through all the trouble to be with each other in a private location. In the end, Julia ended up ratting out Winston and giving him to the police when they finally got captured. This proves how much control that government had over everyone. The emotions they once felt were erased with fear after they were captured.
The two of them almost use each other for their own pleasure. Winston uses Julia to have back up when he thinks he is going to start a rebellion. He may mistake her helping or he using him for her personal pleasure as his partner in crime for going against Big Brother. Julia uses Winston for sex and using sex to break the rules against the government. This makes Winston mad and argues and wishes that Julia would love him like he loved her.
On page 229, Winston says, “he felt no love for her, he hardly ever wondered what was happening to her” to prove to the reader that he never actually loved her and only used her for his own rebellion against the government. Winston is older than Julia and therefore thinks of love as a long term relationship type. Whereas Julia is younger and was trained at a young age to think that all of that love and lust stuff is against the rules. In the end, the two of them get separated and end up ratting each other out.
